The New Hardy Players perform two of Thomas Hardy’s short stories at Corfe Castle on Saturday 14 June.

‘The Waiting Supper’ & ‘The Thieves who couldn’t help Sneezing’ have been adapted by Jennifer Bailey for an open air performance in the castle grounds.

The flower festival is organised by the Owermoigne Flower Club and Friends and sees the house decked out with displays of both fresh and dried flowers.

The Vikings society provide an accurate and educational portrayal of the Viking period, with an equal emphasis on the daily life of the period, and on the more warlike aspects of life in what was a formative period in European history.

A 3-4 mile walk, led by Tony Fincham, on Egdon Heath in the footsteps of Eustacia Vye, visiting Rainbarrow, Mistover Knap & Blooms-end. The walk is free, but the Society would like to know numbers in advance.

Dorchester Festival 2008 kicks off today with the theme for this year’s festivities being all things Cuban.

Stephen Berkoff talk at Dorchester Arts Centre Dorchester’s splendid Borough Gardens will be hosting lots of free events over the weekend including Morris dancing from 10am-1pm on Saturday, with the Samba Band Procession arriving in the park at 1pm. There is a Sunday afternoon line-up of rock and blues from 1-5pm and tonnes of Bank Holiday music and fun on Monday from 1-9pm.

Fans of Steven Berkoff can still get tickets for his talk ‘My Life In Food’ at Dorchester Arts Centre at 7pm on Saturday, whilst the Salsa Big Band are playing the Corn Exchange at 8.30pm on Saturday.

Adonis BlueThe Dorset branch of Butterfly Conservation and Dorset Wildlife Trust are holding a guided butterfly walk across Ballard Down on Sunday 25 May.

The walk is along the lower slopes of Ballard Down which is a chalk downland site with stunning views and spring flowers. The lovely Adonis Blue will by now be on the wing.

Tank MuseumGet out of a rut and visit the Tank Museum over the May Half Term holiday.

There will be a variety of family activities including:

  • Tank Action Display. (Weekdays only, starting at 1pm). A variety of historic armoured vehicles put through their paces in a thirty minute demonstration of tank mobility.
  • Tracked Vehicle Rides. (Monday 26th - Friday 30th from 11 am - 4pm) Feel the thrill of riding in a tracked vehicle for yourself in our specially converted M548, converted to hold 16 people at a time. (Small extra charge applies).

Project Plankton at KimmeridgeThere will be daily activities at the Marine Centre in Kimmeridge over the half-term week looking at the tiniest and most important animals in the ocean.

Plankton trawls, microscope study, design glow-in- the-dark plankton or make a Basking Shark, quizzes, and more.

Dorset Coastlink has organised a week of themed walks along the World Heritage Jurassic Coast running from Monday 26 May to Monday 2 June.
Dorset Coastlink
Explore the diverse wildlife, history, geology and dramatic coastline with the help of expert guides. The Purbeck walks include:

  • Sat 31 May 10am - Lulworth to Kimmeridge (7 miles)
  • Sun 1 June 10am - Kimmeridge to Durlston (11.5 miles)
  • Mon 2 June 10am - Durlston to Studland (6.5 miles)

Purbeck Aware 2008, the celebration of Purbeck’s fantastic natural heritage, begins on Saturday.

The theme for this year’s month long series of events is based on rocks, with this weekends’s events including a quarry tour, rock climbing, dry stone walling a dinosaur dig.
