Aim
Purbeck Blog aims to keep its readers informed of upcoming events and news in Purbeck and the surrounding Dorset area.
Most of us like to get out and about (as do visiting tourists) so we also report on lots of events in nearby Poole, Bournemouth, Dorchester and Weymouth!
If you would like any events included, or if you would like to contribute or you have any suggestions, please contact us at purbeckblog@gmail.com
Location
The district of Purbeck is located in the South East corner of Dorset and encompasses Bere Regis in the north, down to Swanage in the south.
Attractions
Over half of the Purbeck district is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; its Jurassic coastline is a World Heritage Site and over a quarter of the area is covered by Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Among Purbeck’s many gems are the historic remains of Corfe Castle, the beautiful sandy shoreline of Studland, the Jurassic coastline of Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, and the birthplace of the Scouts and wildlife haven - Brownsea Island.
People
The novelist and poet Thomas Hardy was born and died in nearby Dorchester and he used Purbeck settings such as Egdon Heath in his novels. Hardy was also friends with T E Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) who lived at Clouds Hill, near Bovington, where he died in a motorbike accident in 1935.
