Winter Ice Skating at the BIC
Get your winter skates on as Ice Skating returns to the BIC and runs right though until 22nd February.

This year’s rink is bigger and better than before and will be will be the UK’s largest indoor temporary event. It will feature a separate toddler area for smaller children and their parents together with an adjacent beginner’s area ‘Ice & Easy’ for those who haven’t skated before.

Pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

Weymouth Beach MotocrossExperience the thrill of watching up to 100 motorbikes race across Weymouth beach on Sunday in the annual Weymouth and Portland Lions Club Motocross event.

Practice sessions start at noon, with racing from 1pm as the bikes roar across the sand at up to 70mph attempting to navigate the treacherous bomb holes, dare devil jumps and sharp chicanes.

WindsurferWindfest 2007 takes place on Poole Bay this weekend with the country’s best wind and kite surfers competing for top honours.

The title of UK Windsurfing Association National Freestyle Champion is up for grabs with competitors hoping to hop, jump and twist their way to success on the water.

If you fancy a bit of the action there will be wind and kite surf lessons for beginners or if you prefer to stay dry then volleyball, biking and crazy golf are on offer.

Party animals can top off Saturday night at the notorious Animal party on Sandbanks beach.

Poole Park Fest Poole Park is the venue for a festival of sport, leisure and music this Bank Holiday weekend.

Mr Kyps, Poole’s live music venue, is organising the music, which includes REM and Queen tribute bands as well as local blues bands  Swampfish and Ben Waters.

There will be plenty of sporting activities to watch or take part in, including: canoeing, wind surfing, dinghy sailing, rock climbing and kick boxing.

If you like a slower pace of life then the arts and crafts stalls, Indian head massages and alternative therapies on offer might be more up your street.

Sherborne CastleIf you are lacking energy today then spare a thought for the 1500 international competitors who are taking part in the Ironman UK Triathlon.

The event, which is centred around the grounds of Sherborne Castle, includes a  2.4 mile swim across the Castle’s lake, a gruelling 112 mile bike race - which comes down as far as Dorchester - and to really finish them off, a 26 mile marathon.

It’s running for a month so there’s plenty of time to master those flying spins and butterfly jumps but make sure you book your session in advance as it’s sure to be busy.

Purbeck CyclingA new cycling guide to Purbeck has just been published by The Purbeck Action for Cycling Team (PACT). The guide gives an overview of 7 cycle routes across the stunning Purbeck countryside.

You can purchase the guide for 40p from Swanage or Wareham Tourist Information Centres, or download it for free from the Purbeck District Council website.
